The Galliard Ensemble Visit Wetherby Kensington
We were very lucky to welcome the renowned Galliard Ensemble to Wetherby Kensington on Friday. The Galliard ensemble are a dynamic wind quintet made up of five highly successful musicians: Katherine Spencer on clarinet, Richard Bayliss on French horn, Owen Dennis on oboe, Helen Storey on bassoon and Kathryn Thomas on flute. They spent a fun-packed day with the boys. Both Year 1 and Year 2 thoroughly enjoyed the workshops and the Galliard ensemble were very impressed with the boys’ knowledge and unwavering enthusiasm.
They all composed a song based around the rainforest and the boys sang, danced, played a broad range of percussion instruments and used body percussion. The Galliards then introduced their instruments to the boys and performed individually, as well as a quintet. The day culminated in the whole of Year 1 and Year 2 ‘baking a musical cake’ together! It was a musically enriching experience for the boys and a wonderful time was had by all.
