The Galliard Ensemble Visit Wetherby Kensington

We were very lucky to welcome the renowned Galliard Ensemble to Wetherby Kensington on Friday. The Galliard ensemble are a dynamic wind quintet made up of five highly successful musicians: Katherine Spencer on clarinet, Richard Bayliss on French horn, Owen Dennis on oboe, Helen Storey on bassoon and Kathryn Thomas on flute.  Do click on the link if you would like to read more about them.

They spent a fun-packed day with the boys. Both Year 1 and Year 2 thoroughly enjoyed the workshops and the Galliard ensemble were very impressed with the boys’ knowledge and unwavering enthusiasm.

They all composed a song based around the rainforest and the boys sang, danced, played a broad range of percussion instruments and used body percussion. The Galliards then introduced their instruments to the boys and performed individually, as well as a quintet.  The day culminated in the whole of Year 1 and Year 2  ‘baking a musical cake’ together! It was a musically enriching experience for the boys and a wonderful time was had by all.
